Boulder is more than a spectacular geographical location. It’s also a caring community: Name any topic, and people care about it! Boulderites are individuals, first and foremost, with opinions, politics, and creeds that cover the gamut. Yet most of these individuals will set aside their own priorities to lend aid to a neighbor or help find a missing hiker. Most towns might call this a spirit of volunteerism. To Boulderites, it’s just getting things done.
At the heart of the community is a solid core of residents who donate generous chunks of their time to keep basic infrastructure functioning. Boulder community is well served by trained and dedicated fire fighters, search and rescue teams, emergency medical technicians, and wilderness first-responders. Other people apply their skills to civic functions, including town and county government and committees, county school board, the local elementary school, and church projects.
As is true in other small communities, involved individuals get to wear many hats. Although the multiple roles can be stimulating, they can also become overwhelming. One of the goals of the Alliance is to work with the town, through grant-writing or other partnerships, and help secure needed training, equipment, or general funding for Boulder’s well-being.
